Freya Terry
Introduction
Okay, so here is where I’m supposed to introduce myself, but who am I? It’s a tough question to answer, but this is what I know so far.
- My name is Freya Terry
- I’m 22 years old
- I’m female and my pronouns are she/her
- Sailing is what I choose to define myself by, its what gives me confidence
- I started sailing when I was 12 at Fishguard Bay Yacht Club
- I work as a Dinghy, Keelboat, Powerboat and personal watercraft (Jetski) instructor
What are my goals?
This question is an easy one for me now, to sail single-handedly around Britain to raise awareness of mental health issues. I am not going for a record of being the youngest or the fastest, I’m doing it because I want to gain experience, meet new people, visit new places, be independent and achieve something remarkable. (but if I get a record along the way all the better). I also want to use my personal experiences to help others and to get people (especially young people) to talk openly about these issues that many of us face daily. To reduce the shame and fear surrounding mental health issues. I want to experience the adventures the sea has to offer!
“I believe that I can so I’m going to try”
