Backdated post, life’s been busy and I haven’t taken the time to update my social media. I’m flying along at the moment and am currently in Suffolk Yacht Harbour near Felixstowe. For more updates info check out my Stories or follow me on AIS.
I stayed for almost a week in Haslar Marina, my mum visited over the weekend and I ended up staying longer than planned.
On Friday I left the marina and crossed the river to Gunwarf Quay in Portsmouth. I met up with the @tallshipsyt a charity that takes 12-25 year olds out to sea on adventures that can redefine your horizons. They’re super cool and I had the opportunity to sail with them 2 years ago from Vigo – Madeira. My first ocean voyage covering 600nm
So knowing they were in town I organised to meet up and do a talk with the current group onboard. When I arrived in the morning, my boat seemed like a toy in comparison to their 70-foot ocean boats. I met up with some old friends and I think the talk went well. It was to a group of secondary students, who seemed interested and asked loads of great questions. We were sat outside on one of the challenger yachts and the were probably around 30 people all listening to me. TBH it’s definitely the most terrifying thing about this trip. I got so nervous beforehand but once I started talking I calmed down a little. The feedback was positive, I got to meet some cool people, and as scary as it is to talk about mental health it’s a big part of my voyage.
I was presented with a packet of Oreos from a friend as a thank you (it’s a well-known fact that boats don’t float without biscuits). I waved goodbye and motored out the busy channel into the Solent.
It was a busy day and with Cowes classics week I struggled to find a spot in a marina. Cowes is kinda like the centre of the world for sailing so I was keen to stop there. Eventually, after talking to @eastcowesmarina I got a spot, they came and helped with lines. They were really friendly and we took a photo together. I stayed for 2 days and explored around town and met up with some old friends.
