6 hours, 23 nautical miles a little wind
It was time to say goodbye to Falmouth, I’ve had an amazing time and met some incredible people. Check out the podcast I did with the Clean Sailors
But it was time to move forward, so with a good weather forecast, I set out for my next port of call Fowey. I navigated out of the busy Falmouth harbour and once clear got my sails up and turned the engine off.
It’s truly the best sound, it’s calm and you can just feel the wind. I set my course and as the afternoon went on the wind slowly dropped, I was reluctant to motor again but with a boat speed of around 1 knot I didn’t have much choice.
I entered Fowey to be greeted by about 50 dinghies. They were yelling at me to get out there way cuz they were racing. I love it and I’d of done the exact same. It was great to see so many people enjoying the water and making the best of some excellent weather. I did my best to avoid them and ended up getting totally confused as to where I was mooring. The harbour patrol took pity on me and came by in a small boat to direct me in. They were supper friendly and kind.
Barely 5 minutes after arriving I met a friend of a friend who’d seen my stuff online. He was teaching a day skipper’s course and invited me out to the sailing club for the evening. It was great to meet people especially those not long started out in sailing.
Fowey is a wonderful place and a hive of activity on the water, I really love it.
The plan is to sail to Plymouth tomorrow and stay for the weekend, then on to Dartmouth, Portland, Pool and hopefully arrive in the Solent in 2 weeks. If you know anyone in these areas who would be interested in hearing me talk, or just meeting up then do get in touch.
