I’m leaving tomorrow at 10am from Neyland yacht haven, to sail solo around Great Britain and Ireland in aid of mental health awareness. If you’re around come down and give me a wave off.
Today’s been super hectic, interviews, food shopping, filling up on water and fuel, and the biggest job installing an AIS (tracking system) onboard – which is almost finished now.
I’m so distracted by getting ready that I haven’t thought much about it, but I’ll be leaving my friends and family 5 months. And I’ve never even lived on my own for that long before, so l’m moving out in an extreme way and it’ll be a steep learning curve.
I’m also putting myself out there by talking about mental health and my struggles. Which is something I’ve never done before.
I’m excited for the people I’ll get to meet, the experiences and adventures to be had. I can’t wait for the sailing itself but I’m nervous to be putting myself out there and talking online and to strangers about the things I find most difficult.
I’ll probably be an emotional wreck tomorrow saying goodbye to everyone, but it’s positive and once l’m sailing I’ll calm down and settle into live onboard. I’m excited to find out what I can do and just give it a go.
